Jul 18, 2024

We are excited to announce a significant step forward in the development of the Longleaf CCS Hub in Mobile County, Alabama. As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the viability of this groundbreaking project, the team will conduct seismic surveying this summer to confirm that
the underground geology is ideal for this type of project.

The purpose of seismic surveys is to gather valuable geological data to support the project’s progress. This process involves the use of advanced equipment to map underground rock formations accurately. The data collected will help us make informed decisions that benefit
the local and regional industries.

This work, which will be performed in the vicinity of the storage site near Bucks, is expected to start on July 29 and continue for two weeks.

What to Expect During Seismic Surveying

Seismic surveys are a crucial part of our feasibility assessment, helping us confirm that the underground geology is suitable for carbon dioxide sequestration. These surveys will involve creating localized vibrations using specialized vibrioses trucks, which will allow us to map the
subsurface rock formations accurately.

A few key points to note:

  • Safety First: Seismic surveys are conducted using safe, proven methods that are comparable to everyday vibrations, such as those from a passing freight train.
  • Low Impact: Residents in the immediate vicinity (within 100 feet) might experience mild vibrations, but these will be brief and barely noticeable. Our team will be clearly visible and prioritize safety at all times.
  • Efficient Process: The surveying will be completed swiftly, with no lasting signs left on the surface once the work is done.

Why This Matters

This seismic data is essential for determining the most suitable and secure locations for CO₂ storage. By advancing the Longleaf CCS Hub, we are not only supporting local and regional industries but also contributing to a more sustainable future.

We appreciate your continued support and look forward to sharing more updates as the project progresses.
